Saahil Suhail Early Times Report anantnag, Sept 25: In South Kashmir's Kokernag area, despite rigorous efforts Bharatiya Janta Party couldn't find a single candidate to contest municipal elections. As per official reports, a total of 22 candidates filled nomination papers on Tuesday for taking part in scheduled municipal elections but none among them was contesting on BJP ticket. Among contesting candidates, 10 belong to Congress while 12 others are contesting as independents. As per official information, 40 candidates filled nomination papers for Kokernag, Qazigund and Achabal Municipal Committees as [25th of September 25, 2018] was last day for filling nomination papers for municipal bodies falling in first phase as per the notification issued by Chief Electoral Officer , Jammu & Kashmir. Among the contesting candidates, 19 are contesting as independents, 13 candidates are contesting on Congress ticket and BJP has managed to field only 8 candidates for Qazigund and Achabal but couldn't get a single candidate for Koekrnag. BJP District President Anantnag, Rafiq Ahmad Wani blamed a senior party for 'shaming' the party in Kokernag. "State President of Minority Morcha deceived us. In front of me and Hon'ble MLC Sofi Yousf Shab, he took ten forms and some money required for filling nomination papers from party high command but today no single candidate turned up to file the nomination papers," Wani told Early Times. He said that party high command has already taken a strong note of this development and action against the leader is expected after these elections. The leader, who hails from Kokernag and had contested elections from the same assembly segment, wasn't available for his comment. |
