Early Times Report KUPWARA, Oct 3: Seven decades after independence, many areas of the border districts of the state are still without basic amenities like drinking water, road, electricity and medical and educational facilities, putting a serious question mark on the future of the young generations of these areas. Scores of villages in Hyhama area of Kupwara including Manigah Halqa-C, Behak Sabaya, Chattwan, Breenbal, Haji Naka, Sonawali, Tana and other adjoining forest areas are without proper road connectivity. A resident of Manigah Halqa said, "due to bad condition of roads, we cannot send our children to schools, from past several days there is no electricity, while as some electric poles were installed at some places but due to unknown reasons the work was stopped". "The contractors are taking the work for granted, and the fake bills have been drawn but no work has been taken to its logical end", locals alleged. He said that, Manigah Halqa-C is just 7-8 kilometers away from the district headquarter, and in this village there is no network of any telecommunication company, they walk miles together to reach to the nearby villages to get connected with other mobile users across the valley. A group of locals said that they have been ignored by the previous governments, they don't have proper roads, electricity and there is scarcity of water in these villages. The district administration is in a deep slumber and they have failed to provide basic facilities which we should have in this modern era, locals added. "We don't need government jobs, but we demand roads, uninterrupted electricity and drinking water, and that too if we are part and parcel of this state, otherwise we will consider that our village is nowhere on the map and we will never demand for it in future, locals said. |
