NC-PDP alliance phone call away | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 3: The much-awaited alliance of PDP and National Conference is now jus a phone call away, with the NC patron and president Dr Farooq Abdullah reportedly waiting for the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti to call him so that things could be given a final shape. So far the alliance was being viewed by many as a captious entity fraught with severe consequences. However, it seems to have been dawned upon the leadership that in order to survive in Kashmir's political landscape, the bonhomie is inevitable. As per reports, Farooq Abdullah has reportedly expressed much interest towards the idea of his party joining hands with the PDP and jointly fighting the emergence of the BJP on state's political spectrum. He has even discussed the idea with several of his party colleagues who reportedly have told Farooq that the alliance has become a compulsion keeping in view the present political situation. It was also reported that the NC chief was briefed over how the bonhomie could ensure maximum poll participation and peoples' support to both the parties in the coming future. It is being divulged by the people privy to the development that NC patron has expressed his wish to speak to the PDP chief over the issue. However, Farooq has laid down the condition that he should be telephoned by the PDP president herself so that the modus operandi for the future is discussed and things are given the final shape ahead of their execution and proper announcement in this regard. Meanwhile, several NC leaders are at present busy holding parleys with the PDP leaders and even emissaries are being sent from both the sides to flatten the rough ground. "It is call of the hour that we should ponder over whether we could succeed if we decide to tread this treacherous path alone. So far political developments taking place at the national level are compelling us to take the initiative, shun the decades old rivalry and join hands," says a party functionary of NC on the condition of remaining anonymous. Soon after the fragmented mandate of the 2014 election in which no party in the state had enough numbers to form the government of its own, NC's vice president and former CM Omar Abdullah made an open offer to the PDP in a TV interview, offering it an unconditional support to form the government and keep the BJP at bay. Omar at that time substantiated his offer by the political development in Bihar in which Nitesh Kumar and Lalu Yadav had joined hands against the BJP. "If Nitesh and Lalu can do it in Bihar, why can't we do it in Kashmir," Omar had said in the interview. However, at that time, the PDP rejected the offer, stating that the party got votes to keep NC away from power, and joining hands with it would be tantamount to treason with its voters and supporters. As per the reports, the coming two weeks are going to be much decisive in terms of major political developments in the state and it is likely that the announcement of the PDP-NC bonhomie could be made during this time. |
