No takers of party's promises on sanitation | Residents mock at BJP's manifesto | | Early Times Report Jammu, Oct 3: BJP's manifesto for the forthcoming Urban Local Body elections has turned out to be a laughing stock as people are questioning it as a document of electoral hypocrisy. Party's promise to streamline garbage collection, Solid waste management and sanitation in Jammu City if it made the Municipal Corporation has brought BJP under scanner as people are questioning as to what did the party do while it was in coalition government for more than three years. People are also questioning the role of the party in the last corporation in Jammu, where it had its mayor for at least two terms. It is pertinent to mention that the department of Housing and Urban Development in the BJP-PDP government was held by the BJP, but for little less than four years, there was no major change in the sanitation and waste management in Jammu despite huge central funds available to the department. "In the previous JMC, BJP had its Mayor for atleast two terms, but party could bring about no remarkable change in the sanitation of the city and majority of the city remained beyond any sanitation system" said Sunil Gandotra, a resident of ward no. 21. "The promise made by it with regards to sanitation and SWM is only empty recurring" he added. It is highly deplorable that despite Central funds received under Swachh Bharat Mission, the state has failed to utilize them in planned manner and most cities and towns of the state are becoming huge garbage dumps. "In the recent survey on livability index conducted by union ministry of housing and urban development, both Jammu and Srinagar have got embarrassing points under sanitation and yet the BJP, which was in power recently is making promises" said Vinod Nagpal, a resent of ward no. 2. |
