Jammu, Nov 26: Ministry of HRD, Government of India has conferred the Institution Innovation Council (IIC) on Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Jammu. This council is approved by MHRD based on the innovation ecosystem established at MIET and its achievements in the last 5 years including three national-level innovation awards from government agencies such as DST, AICTE and QCI. In an impressive ceremony at AICTE Auditorium New Delhi, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the Institution Innovation Council for select higher education institutions from across the country to encourage, inspire and nurture innovation among students. It is a significant step in institutionalizing innovation and developing a scientific temperament in the country. The IIC at MIET shall promote grassroot innovation, develop prototypes, solve problems in the local-context with a view to generating intellectual property and research output. MIET has already established itself in the R&D field. In the last 10 years, it has filed 15 patents, faculty has published 550 research papers, more than 60% of which are published in reputed international journals and conferences. It has incubated 3 IT products in-house which are currently being commercialized through a faculty-led startup. Students are exposed to advanced technologies through strategic tie-ups with Amazon, IBM, Dell-EMC, Cisco and Microsoft. |
