HRD guidelines on school bags tough task for Edu Deptt | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 26: Despite the fact that J&KJ Education department has miserably failed to implement many directives of Ministry of Human Resources Development in the past to bring reforms in education system in the state, the fresh guidelines on decreasing homework and the weight of school bags has put the department in a tight spot. After making many failed attempts to implement various directives like uniformity in school fees, now the recent order of lowering weight of school bags and minimizing homework will prove hard nut to crack for the state Education department. "The HRD order has brought happiness on the faces of parents who were worried on the increasing weight of the bags of their children and load of homework which hardly give leisure to the children," sources said. They said the guidelines will also restrict the schools particularly the private ones to include syllabus books of different publications of their choice that too on exorbitant price, which makes education costly as all schools will include only NCERT books. The Centre has asked the states and Union Territories to ensure that there is no homework for students of Classes 1 and 2 and the guidelines capping the weight of school bags for Classes 1-10 are adhered to. The guidelines said school bags for students in Class 1 and 2 should not be above 1.5 kg. The weight limits stipulated for other classes is: Classes 3 to 5 (2 to 3 kgs), Classes 4 and 5 (4 kg), Classes 8 and 9 (4.5 kg), and Class 10 (5 kg). Also, Classes 1 and 2 students should be taught only one language and Maths, while Classes 3 and 4 only language, Environmental Studies and Maths. |
