Information deptt has no respect for PM Modi's vision to make business easy | Leaves no stone unturned to crush local dailies, add to unemployment | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: The state run Information department especially its Jammu wing is out to reverse the slogan of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that "Ease of doing business will ultimately lead to ease of living." The Jammu wing of the Information department has only spent Rs 4 crore out of Rs 17 crore budget allocated to it for the advertisements to be distributed among the local dailies in Jammu region. The attitude of the department has pushed the Jammu based dailies including Early Times to the edge. The department has made "doing business an uphill task" and it seems determined to make the lives of the people associated with various newspapers difficult. Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week had said that India is just a few steps away from breaking into the top 50 on the World Bank's ease of doing business index+ and added that the ultimate aim of ease of doing business is to improve the ease of living. It seems the Prime Minister Modi is unaware about how a state run department has crushed local dailies in Jammu and how difficult it has made for people to do business in Jammu region. There are nearly 150 persons, including reporters, editors, columnists, designers, runners, drivers, etc in Early Times. In the absence of government advertisements, it would not be surprising if there is a major lay-off, leading to more unemployment in the state. It seems that the officials at the helm want to snatch the employment from more than 150 families by sitting over the government advertisements. Someone needs to tell them that this money was provided to the department by the government to help the local dailies. Why the officials don't want to spend it is a million dollar question which they only can answer. Prime Minister Modi had said, "We are just a few steps away from breaking into the top 50 in the rankings. India has improved on 8 out of 10 markers. Efforts are on to develop the ranking system at the district level." One hopes that the Government of India sets up ranking system in Jammu district also. It would expose the bureaucrats, who call the shots, and force the entrepreneurs to close down their projects. It's an established fact that the governments in other states across the country don't mind even going out of the way to help local newspapers flourish. However, in Jammu Information department seems to have devised a policy to somehow target the local newspapers to favour only those who are in the "good books" of some people in the corridors of power. The Governor's Administration should take a note of this issue and ask the Information department to explain why Jammu based newspapers are being targeted. It seems officials don't even take the directions of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi seriously. They are making business difficult and are removing ease from it and are deriving a sadistic pleasure out of it. |
