Centre wants to cut Kashmir centric parties to size, put nationalist dispensation at place | J&K may go for LA polls before Lok Sabha elections | | Early Times Report Jammu, Nov 26: The Government of India is mulling to hold Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir in March or April in 2019, sources told Early Times. They said that people sitting in Delhi want the new leaders to come forward and take over the reins of the state. "Most BJP MLAs who were given tickets by the party leadership in 2014 are likely to be dropped to pacify the people in Jammu region. The dismal track record of the BJP MLAs is making the BJP high command think on the entirely different lines," sources added. They said that the policy makers in New Delhi are of the opinion that a "nationalist" government should be put at place in J&K before the parliamentary elections are held. "On the other hand Centre wants to strengthen the nationalist leaders in Kashmir Valley so that they can emerge as an alternative for the traditional parties-National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party," sources added. An insider said that people sitting in the national capital believe that the so-called big politicians in Kashmir have been thriving on boycott politics since 1996 and have made to the Assembly or the Parliament by just securing a few votes and this trend has to change. During all these years Centre has invested only on a few politicians, who despite being provided everything have changed their colours like chameleons. He said that effort is being made to replace the "dynasts" with a common man, who can at least tell the truth to people of Kashmir and would sail in only one boat. "New Delhi is formulating a new Kashmir policy and it has almost been finalized. Omitting leaders, who have double standards could be the first step towards encouraging leaders, who are loyal to the country," the insider added. A politician said that Centre planning to hold elections in Jammu and Kashmir and working out an entirely different plan for the state is not a good news for Muftis and Abdullahs. "As it's both these Kashmir centric parties stand cornered and emergence of Third Front at this point of time would be a big blow for them," he said. "If the Assembly elections in the state are held within a few months there is every possibility about many surprises being sprung in coming days. It seems that Cente has already made up its mind to dump the politicians with the separatist leanings and to encourage only those who would just focus on governance," the politician added. He said that broader contours of the Third Front are already visible in Kashmir but it remains to be seen whether the new leaders who are emerging as an alternative would be able to live upto the expectations or not. |
