SOS Intn'l demands 8 seats for PoK DPs in JK Assembly
CEC issues notices to GOI, J&K state, CEO J&K

Early Times Report
NEW DELHI, Nov 26: SOS International today lodged its grievances before Chief Election Commissioner at his office in New Delhi and copies marked to both Election Commissioners, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice and Governor of J&K over the restoration of 1/3rd i.e. 8 seats out of 24 frozen seats that is lying vacant in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
In a press statement issued here today, SOS International Chairman Rajiv Chuni said that ECI is an independent constitutional authority, has played a fundamental and critical role in the evolution of Indian democracy and on several occasions conducted elections in extreme and volatile circumstances successfully and fairly. He further said that the Organization has raised a serious issue of large number of seats (24 in numbers) lying vacant since decades and even though, the PoK DPs want to exercise their franchisee as per their own will and have their elected member in the assembly but they have been prevented of their constitutional right and kept deprived since long, which is objectionable to the constitutional ethos.
"The PoK DPs who are 13 lakh in populace are given shelter at various places of country and they were not kept in segment. PoK DPs are facing the apathy of Government because they don't have political reservation. There are 24 frozen seats in J&K State Legislative Assembly and out of these, 1/3rd i.e. 8 seats must be restored so that PoK DPs can elect their representatives by making floating segments or through nomination so that they can raise their voice in the house as voices are recorded in the houses but no such provision has been made by any of the successive Governments, therefore we are appealing before the ECI to look into this and take the decision accordingly', he stated.
He further informed that holding elections is the very basic fulcrum of Indian Democracy which is the largest democracy in the world. "By not holding the elections for a particular constituency and keeping it vacant, we are not only depriving the people of their rights but at the same time failing to discharge our lawful duties as envisage under "The Representatiion of People's Act" and other analogous applicable laws", he added.
Chuni informed that Om Prakash Rawat, Chief Election Commissioner after hearing the above arguments swiftly forward our representation to Government of India, J&K State Government and Chief Electoral Officer of J&K State for their comments on the demand of 8 assembly seats in J&K assembly for POK DPs.
