State both highways continue to play vulnerable, remains shut, Amarnath yatra suspended, Machail Yatra hulted | | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 31: The people traveling on two important National Highways in state of Jammu and Kashmir Viz Jammu-Kishtwar and Jammu-Srinagar National Highways continue to play dangerously as the traffic on both these National Highways remain suspended today due landslides at various places as a result of which the Amarnath Yatra was suspended while Machail Yatries along with hundreds of other passangers remain halted for more than six hours at Udhampur. As per the details available with Early Times, Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was closed for vehicular traffic after a landslide at Balli Nallah some 10 KM from Udhampur traffic nakka as a result of which the authorities suspended the Amarnath Yatra was also suspended as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. The officials told the Early Times that the intermittently rains triggered a landslide at Morh Passi near Balli Nallah along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the district Udhampur, blocking the only all weather road linking to Kashmir with the rest of the country beside also the traffic on Kishtwar-Jammu Highway also remain suspended for nearly 7 hours causing lot of inconvenience to the daily commuters including Machail Yatries. The people while talking to Early Times said that both the National Highways has become the headache for the people traveling on this road added that the condition of road from Udhampur to Nashri tunnel is in worest condition added that the road stretch from Nashri tunnel to Batote is in shamble. "You just see the condition of road just outside Nashri tunnel towards Ramban side- see the condition of 1 KM road just outside Nashri tunnel towards Batote-- this is shocking" said one of the passenger. The driver of the vehicle also rued the charging of huge money by the National Highways Authority of India as toll for incomplete road while at the same time added that despite assurances from the Government, the passenger vehicles are being charged by the Muncipal Committees of Batote, Doda, Thatri and Kishtwar added that the tax is being collected by the Muncipalities on the road which is National Highway and is against the spirit of law. The people also rued the poor condition of road from Batote to Kishtwar and called on the authorities to fill up the potholes on the 110 KM stretch of Kishtwar-Batote National Highway. They said that these potholes are playing as a major threat to the people traveling on this road. Similar is the condition of Nashri to Ramban and the road onwards up to Banihal which is a part of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. The people urged up the Governor Satya Pal Malik to take daily stock of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway so that it could be completed at an earliest beside also requested the government to black top the bad patches of both the National Highways so that people traveling on these highways could get respite from what people termed as "most painful" experience while traveling on these two states prestigious National Highways. |
