Ignored' Gujjar Basti seeks Government attention

Jammu, July 31: The apparently ignored residents of the Gujjar Basti sought government's attention for proper roads and drainage.
Due to rains, filth and dung of the animal has made life difficult in the area. The community is settled since 1999 following face off between two countries, due to Kargil war. "We are originally from Treva village of Arnia sector, and settled here for 30 years now", they said, adding that unfortunately, the local administration has not adopted us yet.
The residents Shoket Ahmed, Bashir Ahmed, Ghulam Nabi Sabri, Rajjo Begam, Sahid Hussain, Fida Hussain, China Begum, Abdul Rashid, Jaitoon Bi, Kammo Bibi, Mohd Salim, Saddique Begum and many other informed Early times team during its visit during this evening that the leaders are using them for decades.
"They come seeking votes during elections and then forget us. Thye area faces the threat of being washed away due to swelled Tawi", said, Abdul Rahid a head of the locality.
"Earlier, we were part of Satwari block, now the area has been brought under the Jammu Municipal Corporation, however, the Cantonment Board also claims its control on the area, but the board has never spent even a single penny for the development of the area", he said, adding that during NC-Congress Government in state, several projects started but were abandoned mid way.
"Since then no body come here to know our whereabouts, situated along the Satwari-Bhagwati Nagar bypass road, one can find no blacktopped roads and drains here", he said, adding that it is not less than blot on the face of administration that the residents built drains on their own, after failure of administration to provide basic facilities to them.
"The leaders will visit us seeking votes, and we are sure they will come again with some new promises, this time. We will seek answer for the promises made in past", they added.
