Dug out lanes, dilapidated drains irk Bagh-e-Bahu residents | Dug out lanes, dilapidated drains irk Bagh-e-Bahu residents | | Early Times Report Jammu, July 31: Lashing out at Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Congress leaders for overlooking their area after winning elections, the residents of Bagh-e-Bahu termed these leaders as great opportunists saying they didn't turn up even once to take stock of the problems of the residents. The entire area has been grappling with insanitation due to blocked and dilapidated drains and dug out lanes. The residents of the Bagh-e-Bahu informed Munish Gupta, Editor Early Times about their unending problems, who was on his mass contact programme. Munish would be contesting upcoming assembly elections as an independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency. "The lanes of entire area were dug out for laying down sewer pipes but after completing the work, the lanes have not been repaired due to which huge inconvenience is being faced by the residents," said Dalip Singh, Om Parkash. While accusing BJP leader Kavinder Gupta of betraying them, Rajni Devi said that such leaders don't care about the genuine problems of the people. "Sanitation of the area has ignored by the concerned department enormously. Cleaning of the lanes and drains are not done regularly. We have to spend from our own pocket for the cleaning of drains and lanes. Due to blockage, the drains overflow and water comes into our house. Foul smell from drains is unbearable," alleged Sunita Devi, Polli Devi, Shakuntla, Neeta Devi, Samitri, Madan Sharma, Balram Langeh. "There is huge blockage of the drain in front of my house and the dirty water discharged from the household cross just bes Babli Devi, resident of Bagh-e-Bahu has been facing huge difficulty due to extremely bad condition of her house as the roof of house has been leaking in these rainy days and water enter in her house. "We are very poor and can't afford the expenditure of repair. We are living in fear as when rain falls the roof start seeping. Even though we have BPL Ration Card but no financial help has been given to us for repairing of house. Not only this, we were deprived of the free LPG gas connection under centre scheme. I visited concerned LPG dealer and sought LPG connection but he didn't help me," she said. des my house. Raising another issue of swelling electricity bills, the residents said that they were receiving heavy electricity bills and they are unable to pay them. "We are very poor and getting pending bills from PDD. We want that these bills should be waived off. We work as domestic help in houses and earn our livelihood and can't pay such heavy bills," said Banso. Another resident, Rajni Devi said that unemployment is the biggest issue as there is no Anganwari centre, no sewing centre for women to make them self reliant. People are also facing problem due to erratic water supply. "There is huge problem of water supply. We get water after two days that too for short period of time," said Davinder Kour. "We feel that we are living in hell. Wherever we see, there is insanitation in entire area. Drains are blocked and overflowing, lanes are in broken conditions. What kind of environment are we going to give our new generation where they can't take even fresh air. The stinking smell from drains is totally intolerable and no one can stand for few minutes," said Tej Ram. Strongly criticising the Government, Sham Lal Manni said that his house falls under Ward No 46 of JMC, but when he went to concerned representative for some work, he was replied that his ward doesn't fall under his jurisdiction. "Similarly when I went to the representative of Word No 47, he told me that his area doesn't come under his jurisdiction," he said.
