Agencies New Delhi, July 31: The Jammu & Kashmir Reservation (2nd Amendment) Bill, 2019 has managed to get a nod from the Centre. Also it cleared the way for the extension of the 10 per cent reservation for poor in government offices and educational institutes in the state, which will be in addition to the existing reservations in the state. The 10 per cent quota is over and above the existing 50 per cent reservation cap to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes and considers those having their annual income less than Rs 8 lakh as economically weaker. The Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on January 8 and 9 respectively, following which it got consented and signed by President Mr. Ram Nath Kovind. |
