IWMP brings revolution; help farmers tackle drought, grow multiple crops | | Dr. Banarsi Lal | 11/16/2019 10:25:43 PM |
| Early Times Report udhampur, Nov 16: Integrated Water Shed Management Programme (IWMP), a Government of India scheme for construction of ponds to help the farmers to fight against drought and grow multiple crops in their farm land is proving a boon for farming community. Earlier, these farmers solely were depended on rains for cultivating the crops and could grow only seasonal crop like maize and wheat. When there was no rains and continuous dry spell, the crops withered due to non-availability of water, as these farmers did not have any source for irrigation. Now in Panchayat Gantwal of Block Chenani of District Udhampur farmers are very happy as under Government of India's scheme of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP) and farmers grows multiple crops along with seasonal crops like maize and wheat. Sapna Kotwal, Project Officer IWMP, said that our mission is to increase the water table level and generate the employments. She added that earlier the farmers in Gantwal Panchayat depend upon one crop but under water shed development programme we constructed ponds in said panchayat and now they grow multiple crops in a year. |
