Fighting invisible enemy | | | The outbreak of COVID-19 has created a war like situation across the world. The Government of India (GoI) has gone into a firefighting mode by locking down the States and Union Territories where the positive cases have been reported. People are being asked to stay indoors and maintain social distance. The government has put restrictions in all modes of travel. Inter district bus services, railway services and flight operations have been suspended. People have been asked to stay where they are and not to move. Recently one of the officers stated that it's like World War-III situation and somehow people have to ensure that they survive the catastrophe that is knocking at our doors. The big question which is looming over the minds of people is that if COVID-19 turns into a full blown crisis in India, how will the government handle it? The health infrastructure across the country won't be able to cope up with the number of patients, which can swell into thousands. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has expressed dismay over people not understanding the importance of lockdown and still moving about freely. He once again made a fervent appeal to people to save themselves and their families from this deadly virus. Ball is in the court of the people as they have to understand that they are fighting an invisible enemy. Had it been a war they could have hid themselves in the bunkers or moved to safer locations, but it's worse than that. The enemy is in the air and no one knows whom it will attack. The only safeguard is to stay at home and maintain social distance. In Jammu and Kashmir the administration is taking stern measures, it has started booking the people who are violating the prohibitory orders and roaming in the streets. Ones who are unable to understand the meaning of lockdown are likely to end up in jails. The J&K administration is aware of the fact that the hospitals and the medical staff cannot be over burdened by allowing people to carry on with their activities. The messages emanating from the COVID-19 hit country are clear that India, especially J&K, won't be able to cope up if this time bomb explodes. People have to realize that their safety and lives are in their own hands and they cannot just wait for someone to come and save them. They have to act as their own saviours as well as the saviours of their families. |
