EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Mar 18: Editor in Chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Tuesday urged the authorities to take a sympathetic view towards the problems being faced by the residents of Model Town area in Gangyal.
Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, “Sufferings of people cannot be ignored. The authorities need to ensure that the citizens are not deprived of basic needs and requirements. The difficulties being faced by them must be addressed by the administration on a regular basis.”
Munish said, “Residents of Model Town area were fed with lots of promises and assurances with regard to upgrading the basic civic amenities but they never got anything in return as very little or negligible has been done so far for them. The administration must get its act together to take care of people’s needs.”
Meanwhile, residents of Model Town area while talking to Early Times said that callous attitude of the concerned authorities has left them in lurch with the result they are facing lot of difficulties.
“There are several day to day problems being faced by us particularly the dilapidated condition of lanes and unhygienic situation of the area. The roads are in bad shape but the authorities have turned a deaf ear towards their repair. People of the area are fed up with the neglect they are facing,” said a local resident, Parvinder.
“Heaps of garbage lie scattered on roads while the drains are choked with garbage. Overflowing drains due to blockage and several vacant plots in the locality which have turned into mini garbage dumping sites are a big source of nuisance for the inhabitants,” he added.
Several other residents of Model Town informed Early Times that the lanes and by-lanes in the area were surfaced only once ever since the locality came into being adding that their repeated efforts to get smooth roads yielded no results as the authorities never pay any heed to address the issue.
“The surfacing of lanes was taken up only once. We never witnessed either blacktopping or tiling of lanes since then. The condition of most of the lanes in Model Town is in shambles. Poor sanitation and the condition of the lanes with huge pot holes have exposed the hollow claims of development besides we are also facing problem of waste dumping in vacant plots, however, there is no one to listen to our woes and redress them despite repeated pleas at every possible platform,” the residents said.
