| CORONAVIRUS: Safai Karamcharis without masks, gloves | | |  Ashwani Sharma

Udhampur, Mar 24: In the wake of dreaded COVID-19 terror, many Safai Karamcharis in the town have not been provided with masks, gloves and sanitizers.
Sources informed that the municipal authorities even have never thought of providing head covers like caps, gloves, specialized shoes etc to such crusaders of cleanliness and this is not the case in Udhampur but in many parts of J&K.
“When we all are caring for ourselves and our loved ones why the authorities are not bothered to provide safety items to the poor Safai Karamcharis who mostly live from hand to mouth,” Rahul Kumar—a student of Social Sciences informed.
Without disclosing name a Safai Karamchari informed that only a few of his colleagues are given masks and gloves while most of them are without it.
He also said that these days some volunteer organizations are coming forward with masks for Safai Karamcharis but the authorities concerned have never bothered about them. He also said that municipal authorities even discriminate between Safai Karamcharis who are regular, contractual and those working with contractors.
Meanwhile CEO Municipality Udhampur Santosh Kotwal said that we will distributed the masks and sanitizers properly to them but they does not used properly even we have also distributed the uniform to them but they does not use properly.
When contacted director locals and urban bodies , said they have distributed the masks but if there is some specific case we will look into it and provide immediately to them who works and lifted the heaps of garbage a without masks and sanitizers.
