Anantnag, Aug 17: Taking cue from the Delhi Government, the authorities in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district have introduced Odd-Even formula for reopening market days after the trade bodies raised the issue and questioned imposition of lockdown
The Deputy Commissioner Anantnag K K Sidha on Sunday evening issued a detailed order in this regard and ordered the operationalization and shops and business establishments in the district.
According to the directive, shops located on the left side of the road will remain open on odd dates and shops located on right side of the road will remain open on even dates.
“The opening of markets shall be allowed from 09:00 am to 05:00 pm,” read the order.
However the movement of public transport hasn’t been allowed instead the SSP Anantnag has been directed to deploy the police personnel on private at all prominent entry points for disallowing the movement of public transport.
“The local market committees shall ensure that in no case the prescribed schedule is violated. Also, there shall be no sale or purchase without the face masks,” reads the order.
Earlier the Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) had raised concerns over the implementation of lockdown.
“Administration has made lockdown a joke, people move from one place to another without interruption they can come and go, this is not a lockdown, but it is a confusing torment, the administration should now come forward with a new plan ,” President KTA had said.
He even said that keeping shops close wouldn’t stop the novel coronavirus from spreading.
Shahdar had requested the new Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to reconsider this ‘lockdown project’ and immediately issue orders for resumption of business activities.
Other trade union leaders had also voiced similar opinions and urged the government to allow the operationalization and shops and business establishments as people associated with business were suffering from last year.
The Delhi Government, in order to minimize the pollution levels, had earlier introduced the Odd-Even scheme as traffic rationing measure. Under this scheme, vehicles with number plates with odd last digit will be allowed on roads only on odd dates, while vehicles with even-last digit can be taken out only on even dates.
