With half a million followers, Sinha is most popular LG of JK
8/18/2020 12:23:33 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 17: With around half a million followers and counting on the microblogging website Twitter, Manoj Sinha is the first Lieutenant Governor or even Governor of Jammu and Kashmir for that matter, to be so popular online.
The Lieutenant Governor, who runs his Twitter account since 2014 had over 491.4 thousand followers on the day he took charge as the LG. Thousands more have added since.
Interestingly his predecessor, GC Murmu didn’t own any social media account. Before Murmu, the then Governor Satya Pal Malik had opened an account on Twitter but it didn’t have more than a few thousand followers till the handle got hacked and the government had shut it down.
Prior to SP Malik, NN Vohra had been active on Twitter and would often personally respond to public grievances on the social media. But his followers were also in thousands only.
But when it comes to Sinha, he his followers are even more than those of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
Barring former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, no politician in Jammu and Kashmir has more followers than Sinha.
Another thing interesting about Sinha’s account is that he mainly tweets in Hindi. The people of Jammu in particular, most of whom speak and write Hindi, are happy for this as they can easily post their tweets to the LG.
B Tech and M Tech by qualification, Sinha follows not more than 106 odd people on Twitter.
Most of them include the top BJP leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
On the day Sinha assumed office in Jammu and Kashmir, the only prominent politician from Jammu and Kashmir, he followed was Dr Jitendra Singh who is also the MoS in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Interestingly Dr Jitendra has big number of followers on Twitter much close to but a bit lesser than Sinha.
Observers believe that Sinha’s popularity on the social media will be an added advantage for the people of Jammu and Kashmir as he will be available online.
“Given this activeness on the social media, he (Sinha) will be just a click away, and this is something really good for the very of good governance as envisaged by Modi Ji,” said a political analyst.
