BARAMULLA, Aug 17: Top most LeT commander among three militants were killed, while three security forces including two CRPF personnel and one cop were also killed today in an encounter in Kreeri model village of this north Kashmir district.
According to sources that, at around 9:15 am today, a joint naka party of CRPF and Police was attacked by a group of 2-3 militants near three way of Nawan area of Kreeri after which the militants managed to escape from the spot, however the fire was retaliated by forces triggered to brief exchange of firing from both the sides.
In the initial firing, an SPO and two CRPF personnel of 119 BN were injured after which they were immediately moved to the nearby SDH Kreeri, where later they succumbed to their injuries.
The slain soldiers were identified as Driver Khurshid Khan and Constable Sharma Lavkish Sudarshan of CRPF and SPO Muzaffar Ahmad. While two Army personnel also sustained gunshot injuries and were shifted to hospital for advanced treatment.
However, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar told reporters that three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants came from the orchards and targeted a joint naka party of police and CRPF at Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district resulting the killing of two CRPF men and a Special Police Officer (SPO).
Soon after the attack, a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) was launched by a joint team of army’s 29 RR, SOG, Police and CRPF in the area, the additional reinforcement was called in from Watergam army camp that is just 2-3 KMs away from Kreeri area to nab the attackers.
Sources said militants had also snatched weapon after killing the security forces, one INSAS rifle which was missing has also been recovered from the spot of attack, while two AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the possession of militants.
Moreover, police identified all the three killed militants as Sajad Ahmad Mir @Haider, @Jaja of Brath Kalan Sopore (LeT Chief of North Kashmir) and Anayatullah Mir of Andergam Pattan, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT.
Police also said that Sajad had a long crime history; he was also involved in recruitment of youth in terror ranks. Several terror crime cases were registered against him which included the killing of Waseem Bari, BJP youth leader from Bandipora and his family members.
