Water logging exposes real works of Kathua Municipality | | | ASHWANI SHARMA EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, Aug 17: The heavy rain last night has exposed the real work culture of Municipal authorities of Kathua as the water logged due to clogged drains wreaked havoc in Ward No 14 and other adjoin areas. Rajeev, a local resident of Ward No 14 Sowan Chack of Kathua town informed that almost the entire Kathua town especially Ward No 14 was inundated which exposes the working of the municipality as the water was logged on the roads and streets and entered the houses resulting in hardships for the commuters and pedestrians. “Whenever it rains the water from drains will enter our houses and damage our belongings. This problem persists because there is no proper drainage system due to the negligence of municipal authority. It exposes the work culture of municipality as well as district administration,” said Rajeev. “Had municipal authorities as well as district administration cleared the blocked drains or made sure that a proper drainage system is at place then the water would have flowed smoothly. There was no water logging and flood like situation in the town and we had no fear that water from streets will enter our homes,” he added. Another resident Vinod Kumar said that in the midst of this nuisance, none of the Municipal Councilors including president were seen making attempts to solve the problem. “Why had we elected these Councilors if they can’t even visit us to inquire our wellbeing in such a worse situation,” he said. Several others said that medical experts opine that if the problem of water logging continues then there is possibility of outbreak of some waterborne diseases, in fact we are already facing deadly Covid-19 pandemic. When contacted, CEO Municipality Kathua, Sanjeev Gandotra said that we are maintaining proper drainage system but this time there has been too much of rain, due to which water has entered the houses of people.
