Retaining wall collapses, four vehicles damaged
6/9/2021 11:19:20 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 9: At least four vehicles were damaged when a retaining wall along Circular Road collapsed here this afternoon. Locals gathered soon after the incident of sliding and protested against the administration as the Circular Road was built by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), a month back.
“It has been learnt that Rs 60 lakhs from this work was withdrawn from JMC exchequer. A month ago, the work was completed. Today, the wall collapsed and at least four vehicles have been damaged”, the eye witnesses said adding that public money was siphoned off in the name of Jammu’s development.
“Nothing is being spent on the ground, they believe in paper works only. Last year the same incident had occurred on a circular road, but no action was taken by the administration”, they said, adding that even the people, whose vehicles went off the road during sliding, paid private cranes for lifting their vehicles.
“We were about to leave for Gulabgarh, as we moved towards our car the entire wall collapsed, and my car got damaged”, said a woman, adding that the administration should compensate the people whose cars/ vehicles were damaged today due to sliding. Meanwhile, angry over the incident the local youths blocked the circular road and held a protest against the administration.
“We will not open the road till a senior officer visits this place. Luckily, there was no one in the vehicle that fell from the road into a deep gorge due to sliding otherwise someone would have lost his/her life. BJP has promoted corruption. The wall was raised without using cement (concrete)”, said the agitated youth adding that a high-level enquiry into the incident needs to be carried out.
“It is the second incident when a retaining wall has collapsed. We want a quality check by anti graft agencies, for all the development works going on in Jammu city”, they said. Some senior citizens tried to pacify the youth so that traffic resumed on the road, but the youth continued road blockage for a long time.
