As temperature soars, JKPDCL system collapses in Jammu | Pesky power cuts, fluctuations damage electronic gadgets, people aghast | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 9: With a surge in the temperature, system of the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (JKPDCL) appears to have collapsed in Jammu. Unscheduled power cuts and fluctuations have become a part of lives for the people. Early Times received many calls on Wednesday from old city and other areas that fluctuations and power cuts have damaged their electronic gadgets. Complaints said that tall claims of turning Jammu into a Smart City are a hoax. “If the administration wants to turn Jammu into a smart city it should first come up with a smart electricity system,” they said. When Early Times contacted Managing Director JKPDCL, he said, “In old city areas people resort to hooking due to which load increases and we have to resort to load shedding. Compared to last year, this year power load has increased by 22%.” The MD said that power augmentation is being done and by June 15 or 16 the transmission capacity of the grids will be increased and it will help in regulating the power supply. Amid lockdown, unscheduled power cuts have irked people who are finding it difficult to bear the temperature. People have reasons to blame JKPDCL for this situation because in most parts of Jammu city and adjoining areas, smart meters have been installed and people are regularly paying the power tariff. “People resorting to hooking is a lame excuse that JKPDCL is giving to hide its failures. The corporation was not prepared to handle the summer season in Jammu,” locals alleged. |
