Withdraw discriminatory act: Warehouse traders federation Prez urges LG Sinha
Mahajans, Khatris, Sikhs can’t buy, sell agri land in J&K

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 9: Criticizing the discriminatory Land Revenue Act, President of Traders Federation Warehouse Market, Deepak Gupta said that the law is sheer discrimination against Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities in J&K UT.
While talking to Early Times, Deepak Gupta said that they had very high hopes that after abrogation of Article 370 and conversion of JK State into Union Territory, the discrimination with Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities will come to an end but it is very sad that the some people in LG administration have been creating confusion in this matter and not letting this issue be settled.
“Section 133-H of the Land Revenue Act, which debars Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities from purchasing and selling agricultural land, had become a problem for us. There were restrictions on purchase of more than four kanals of agricultural land but presently we cannot even purchase 4 marlas of land,” he alleged.
He further said that the Revenue Department has stopped doing registration of land.
“We had thought that we would get relief after abrogation of Article 370 but on the contrary more problems have been created by the administration in purchasing or selling land for us. We fully support abrogation of Article 370, which has ended the discriminatory tradition of two constitutions, two flags in Jammu and Kashmir, which was creating differences among two regions and some Kashmir based separatists were taking advantage of it to vitiate the atmosphere,” he said.
“I strongly appeal to the LG MK Sinha to withdraw this discriminatory land act so that decade long discrimination against Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities might come to an end,” Deepak Gupta said.
