Early Times Report

Jammu, June 9: The claim of the Jammu administration about having provided COVID-19 jabs to 100% populace above 45-years in the division seem to be a hoax as people of this age group are still thronging vaccination centers to get a shot.
As per the official figures, so far 2837295 people in the age group above 45 years have been given the vaccine in J&K. Similarly, 160279 health care workers and 487167 front line workers have been immunized against the deadly virus.
Even though government data circulated by the Health Department claims that 100 percent of the population in the age group above 45 years has been given COVID-19 jabs, but still a large number of people are getting the second dose of the vaccine at the centers. In many of these centers, people are ruing the non-availability of vaccines. The figures currently cover only 73.31 per cent of the population above 45 years, while the target of 27 per cent is yet to be achieved. So far 34 lakh 84 thousand 741 people have been given the vaccine in across the Union Territory, this includes health care workers, front line workers and citizens above 45 years of age. The Health Department data claims that 100 per cent population above 45 years age group has been covered in Jammu district. However, the figures seem to belie the official claims.
On one side the government is claiming that it has achieved 100 percent vaccination for above 45 years of age and on the other side the people of the same age group are thronging the health centers in search of the jabs.
Reports further inform that Shopian and Ganderbal are also included in 100 per cent category and similarly, 98.45 per cent in district Samba, 84.63 per cent in Bandipora have been claimed to be covered. Kupwara district has the lowest 39.13% vaccine in Kashmir division. Similarly, only 48.09 percent vaccinations have been done in Srinagar, while in other districts more than 60 percent vaccine have been done. The vaccine campaign is going on in about 800 centers in the erstwhile state. The department has about three lakh vaccine doses available for 45 years (citizen) category and 1 lakh 10 thousand vaccines for 18-44 age group. In this, the vaccine is also reaching from the Centre on 10, 12 and 26 June. In Jammu and Kashmir, a target has been set to provide COVID vaccine to about 60 lakh population in the age group of 18-44. However, in this population only a few percent of the target has been achieved. The vaccine is being given in this age group only in Kathua, Udhampur, Rajouri, Jammu, Budgam, Baramulla, Anantnag and Srinagar districts. Covishield vaccine is being given, whereas in some slots of district Srinagar and Jammu, the vaccine was given after online registration, which is going on.
