Plantation, developmental activities reviewed | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 3: Principal Secretary to Horticulture Department, J&K Govt. Navin Kumar Choudhary, IAS today convened the meeting of the Chief Horticulture Officers of Jammu province at Horticulture Complex Talab Tillo, Jammu to review the progress of various developmental activities especially Plantation during the ensuing season of the current financial year. During the course of meeting, he reviewed the district wise progress in context to plantation under various schemes of the department. The Chief Horticulture Officers appraised the chair about the area to be covered under plantation of fruit crops in their respective districts. The Principal Secretary directed to go for compact plantation of Aloevera in kandi belts of Kathua and Samba covering an area of 100 Ha in each district and one Aloevera processing unit will be established there for the processing of Aloevera so produced thereby benefitting the farming community and increasing their livelihood. He also directed for establishing one Olive oil extraction plant at Ramban for production of olive oil. He emphasized that apart from increasing production / productivity, focus should be laid on branding and packaging of the farmers produce. He exhorted upon the officers to select areas for plantation of different crops in clusters and concentrate on area specific crops so that the production of fruit crops may be commercially exploited and also form FPO's of those fruit crops. He instructed the officers to ensure better implementation of Departmental schemes for the ultimate benefit of the fruit growers and emphasized that we should focus on introduction /plantation of exotic varieties and make year 2021-22 as the Golden year in the history of Horticulture. The Chair desired that department is celebrating Horticulture week w.e.f 14th July to 20th july to be inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha followed by massive plantation drive and 6 lakh fruit plants shall be planted during the ensuing rainy season. Further, he asked to prepare the Detailed Project Report for the development of Chakroi Farm, R.S. Pura on modern lines so that funds shall be released immediately for its development. On the occasion, he directed the officers to encourage the private entrepreneurs for development of High Density fruit plant nurseries according to the Nursery Development Scheme of the Department and also advised that Chief Horticulture Officers and Chief Agriculture Officers should regularly meet on monthly basis and chalk out plans for the betterment of farming community and also go for intercropping with legumes, vegetables, medicinal plants etc. in the vacant spaces of the orchards. |
