Jammu awaits vikas as dev projects miss deadlines

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 3: In a setback for Jammu province, various developmental projects have been missing deadlines after deadlines as government is unable to ensure their timely execution in the winter capital province for years.
While Jammu has been the victim of alleged apathy in the last seventy years of dynastic rule, the Raj Bhawan has seemingly not been able to do much to gear up developmental activities in the winter capital region.
The Early Times has accessed official documents, which show that developmental projects undertaken in various districts of Jammu are missing deadlines for years.
Official documents reveal that in the frontier district of Rajauri alone around 50 developmental projects are missing deadlines for years.
Sources said the government recently reviewed the progress “on the developmental projects being executed under languishing scheme by different departments.
Official documents reveal that some thirty water supply projects are still incomplete.
“Concerning the Jal Shakti Department, the meeting was apprised that out of 68 schemes, the work on 24 schemes is complete in all respects in Rajouri and Nowshera subdivisions,” official documents reveal.
In the public works department, around four dozen works are incomplete.
In the education department, half a dozen schemes are still incomplete.
“Though government has started a scheme to complete languishing schemes even that is not being done in a speedy manner,” said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted a senior official said that there was no delay in execution of projects but that “projects left incomplete by the previous regimes were being completed as a part of a new initiative.”
He said new deadlines have been fixed timelines for completion and continuous monitoring for maintaining the quality of works to meet the developmental aspirations of the general public.
It is pertinent to mention that Jammu continues to struggle for development even after the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
