Now showers plunge Jammu into darkness
Kya Huwa Tera Waada?

Early Times Report

Jammu, July 3: A fortnight after the government ordered enquiry into “power crises” in Jammu city, the public woes seem to have only worsened, as in the latest, a drizzle was enough to plunge parts of the city here into darkness.
The residents of various areas here complained that after the showers on July 2, several localities reeled under darkness, mainly between 7:00 PM Friday to 5:00 AM Saturday. “In this sweltering heat we had to bear with the darkness for the whole night. The residents of this historic city of temples are being taken for a ride,” the locals said. The Jammu and Kashmir government has already been facing severe criticism for its alleged failure to ensure “decent power supply in Jammu during the hot summers.”
The latest power breakdown was witnessed after rains in Jammu city when areas like Ward 7 were already witnessing unscheduled power cuts amid the scorching heat. The helpless residents have also been complaining of scarcity of water in the area. The alleged government apathy has left the locals fuming. “Bijli, Sadak and Paani are the basic duties of any government… But here in Jammu, the government has miserably failed to provide even electricity and water as the babus are not willing to listen to public woes,” said a delegation of Jammuites.
Just last month on June 16, during a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat here, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha while almost apologizing to the people, had assured that a Committee would be constituted by the Chief Secretary to enquire into the unscheduled power outage in various areas. The capital, however, continues to complain of “power crises.”
While the government subsequently ordered a probe into power crises in Jammu, the city continues to reel under darkness quite often.
In June Shaleen Kabra, Principal Secretary Home Department, was appointed as the Inquiry Officer into the matter.
The inquiry is believed to be underway.
