Early Times Report

Udhampur, July 3: Water and power crisis has added to the miseries of people here as both urban as well as rural areas continue to face the problem in this scorching heat. People of Majlata said that un-scheduled power cuts and low voltage in most of the localities has become a routine especially in Ramnagar and Majalta areas.
Few day back Jal Shakti Department issued a circular regarding redressal of water supply related issues in Udhampur and also put mobile number of concerned officers/official in public domain and ensured proper supply, but nothing happened on the ground. “Many times we visited the offices of concerned departments but nothing fruitful resulted,” some locals said.
Many people from different Panchayats such as Satrari, Majalta, Chani, Samal, Battal, Bani thlora, Dhamma in Majalta block protested against the Jal Shakti Department regarding shortage of water. Sarpanch Dharam Singh of Panchayat Satrari said his Panchayat area and other panchayats were facing shortage of water due to irregular water supply for the last two months.
The protesters threatened to block the Dhar Road near Battal if proper water supply is not made in the area. People of Majalta have urged the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur to look into the matter and ensure them proper water and power supply so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
