Jammu, July 3: To celebrate Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, Department of Chemistry, GDC Akhnoor today organised webinar on “Green Chemistry and Energy Savings- A Promising Step towards Sustainable Development”.
The event was organized under the guidance of Principal, GDC Akhnoor, Dr. Namarta. The event was organized by Dr. Anil Verma Senior Asstt. Prof. (convener) and Dr. Sanjay Kapoor Asstt. Prof. (Organizing Secretary) of department of chemistry.
In the very outset, Dr. Namarta, Principal of the college gave her welcome speech and introductory remarks about the event.
The resource Person for the webinar was Dr. Revika Arora, Senior Assistant Professor of Department of Chemistry, GCW Gandhinagar, Jammu.
While participating in webinar meet, Dr.Revika highlighted the concept of Green Chemistry. She made the students aware about sustainable development.
She said that we need to achieve triple bottom line. We need to make profit but keeping in view about the people and the planet. Green chemistry is to reduce or to eliminate the use and generation of hazardous substances.
Green chemistry is reducing waste energy, cost, materials, risk, and hazards. She explained 12 principles of green chemistry. She also stressed on benefits of green chemistry especially human health, environment and economy .
Dr. Revika Arora Said that with more people remaining at home for extended periods of time because of the Corona virus outbreak, households may see an unexpected increase in their monthly energy usage. She emphasized that we must explore ideas to save energy. We must search for ideas on how to go green and save green. She insisted on the rules that Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
