DGGI will create competitive spirit, speed up development: Suri | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: "Jammu and Kashmir has become India's first Union Territory (UT) to have a District Good Governance Index (DGGI), which will not only inculcate a competitive spirit amongst all districts but also help the Union Government have a fair assessment of the transparent and effective governance in all districts of Jammu and Kashmir, which were lacking behind as compared to other districts in rest of the states & UTs of India". This was stated by Bharatiya Janata Party J&K Executive Member, Raman Suri, who added that such statistics, if updated regularly, will help people know the status of development, keep a check on officials working on different projects and help in best utilization of funds well in time, especially on the projects for which they are meant for. He thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh for choosing Jammu and Kashmir as the first UT to implement DGGI and also making the rankings public, in which Jammu made it to the top of list. Congratulating Jammu district administration for keeping a pace with development and giving people their projects well in time, Suri said that every district has been advised to have a vision document for two years and also involve social and political activists, intellectuals, economists and businessmen into it to see how that vision document should be implemented. This, if done sincerely, will make every district come up to the expectations of people and generate good results, he added. Hailing the Union Government for abrogating Article 370 that paved a way for development and good governance which never existed in the erstwhile state, Suri said, today the youth is looking forward to see themselves well-placed and earn for themselves as well as add to the economic reforms in the UT. |
