J&KSLCA organizes awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 24: Under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), a day-long awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" was organized by Jammu & Kashmir State Level Coordinating Agency (J&KSLCA) for community members of Village Parwah, Tehsil Marh. By strictly following the COVID-19 protocol, around 50 community members participated in the program. Resource person on this awareness program was Shikha from NGO. She delivered a lecture on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures". As per National Action Plan on Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Government of India (GOI), programs like these need to be conducted on a regular basis covering all strata of society. Resource person explained that Jammu & Kashmir is a border UT and is vulnerable to problems like drug abuse and motive of this awareness program is to generate awareness regarding the Drug Abuse, preventive measures and Treatment. She explained that Drug/ alcohol abuse is rising day by day in the society and youth of our society is involving at large number in the addiction. She discussed various types of drugs (tobacco, caffeine, depressants, stimulants etc.) and how they are consumed. She educated the participants about the long- and short-term effects of different types of drugs on body, mind, career and family. She further added that drug addiction is not only confined to body, mind and career but it is also illegal to consume it. At the end of the program pamphlets were distributed among participants and certain questions were raised by participants and satisfactory answers were given to them by resource person.
