Pandits feel renounced, betrayed by BJP
Alleged sabotage of Shrine Bill
3/6/2014 11:20:09 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 6: The statement of two top State BJP leaders including party president Jugal Kishore Sharma and its Legislative Party leader, Ashok Khajuria on Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill has Infuriated KP community all over the country which is feeling deeply anguished and betrayed.
The statement has evoked a lot of condemnation from the community all over the country and it has sought a clarification from the top leadership of the Party at National level on their role towards the displaced Pandits from Valley.
The Kashmiri Pandits across their party affiliations held meetings in Union Capital yesterday not only to condemn the statement but to discuss their future course of action. A spokesman of the KPs later told this reporter that the community feels totally disturbed as the statements made by two leaders were uncalled for. ``Our concern is not that the Bill was sabotaged but the language used by the two leaders belonging to Party which claims itself to champion the cause of nationalist elements in the country''.
By targeting a community which is the part and parcel of Hindu Samaj of the country and who were forced to flee from the Valley by the subversive elements for not compromising on the Indian nationality had never expected that BJP will betray it this way on the floor of the House by joining hands with Congress which was opposed to the passage of the Shrines Bill to please one of their top party leaders.
The Pandit leaders during the meeting have decided to hold a protest in front of BJP office at Union Capital and seek an explanation from Party leadership on their role viz a viz Kashmiri Pandits who don't form the part of vote bank politics. The meeting said the infuriating speeches of two BJP leaders have hurt the sentiments of the community and it has proved that the Party was not any way different for the community than Congress.
``Constitution of Board or passage of the Bill was a debatable issue and the Party could have invited them for talks and given their views by suggesting certain changes in the Bill if they wanted'', said Rakesh Kaul KSD chief regretting the statements of BJP leaders. Kaul wanted to know what the BJP leaders wanted to convey by saying that there will be Amarnath land row type agitation in case the Bill was passed. Was it a threat to the displaced Pandits from BJP leadership, he asked?
He said the Pandits participated shoulder to shoulder with their Dogra brethren during the land row agitation and threatening them of repercussions for demanding passage of shrines and temples Bill in Kashmir is unfortunate for a party which is claiming to be the champion of nationalism.
Meanwhile, sources said that a Hindu leader had visited Jammu last week and convened the meeting of BJP and other Hindu organizations in which they were asked to oppose the Bill. Besides the Union Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah and Ghulam Nabi Azad who were also in Jammu two days prior to passage of the Bill had also asked their Partymen especially legislators not to let the Bill be passed in the Assembly, sources added.
Sources said the sole Trustee of Dharmarth Trust Dr Karan Singh who is also opposed to the passage of the Bill was also camping in the City of Temples during the day.
Sources said that all the parties barring PDP, Communists and two Independent MLAs from Valley hobnobbed with each other to sabotage the passage of the Bill and the BJP deviated from its official position on the Bill as Party national spokesperson Nirmala Sitaraman while addressing a press conference at Jammu had said passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines and Religious Places Bill will be the poll plank of the Party in the State.
