Will Mustafa Kamaal leave NC? | Startling assertion | | Rustam Jammu, Aug 9: Will Farooq Abdullah's younger brother and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's uncle and party's additional general secretary Mustafa Kamaal resign from the NC and join hands with former party MP Abdul Rasheed Shaheen, who only the other day accused Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah of being opportunist and charged them with destroying the party and Sheikh Abdullah's legacy? The answer could be in the affirmative if one takes what Shaheen said on Friday on its face value. Shaheen on Friday claimed that "soon Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal will also leave the party as he has already realized the follies committed by party leadership". "Kamaal knows that at present National Conference leadership is pursuing anti-Sheikh Abdullah policies and I am dead sure that he will also quit the party in near future". Interestingly, Kamaal had a day before condemned Shaheen, dubbed him as an opportunist and accused him of indulging in anti-party activities. Shaheen has been served a show cause notice by the party and asked him why action should not be taken against him for indulging in anti-party activities. Notwithstanding what Kamaal said about Shaheen, the latter's assertion cannot be completely dismissed as a figment of imagination. There appears some substance in what Shaheen said. After all, Kamaal is being ill-treated by certain elements in the party who have been urging Omar Abdullah to contest not only from Sonawar Assembly constituency but also from Hazratbal constituency, which Kamaal has been representing since January 2009. Only a couple of days ago, he had taken on those who made it public that the party had decided to field Omar Abdullah from two "safe" constituencies of Sonawar and Hazratbal and declared that he was very much in the race. Since Omar Abdullah is not sure of his victory in the Ganderbal constituency he at present represents, members of his coterie have identified Sonawar and Hazratbal seats which, according to them, are "safe" for the working president of the NC. On Friday, Kamaal also dismissed as mischievous the rumour that he was not contesting the Assembly\ election this time and made it clear that he was very interested in contesting the upcoming Assembly elections. Whatever the case, the fact remains that all is not well with the NC, the Kashmir's premier political organization. It would not be surprising if many senior leaders come out of the party they worked for years. |
