Shah ate his words, commends OIC | Menace of separatism | | Neha Jammu, Aug 9: The self-styled chief of Hurriyat Conference Jammu and Kashmir (HCJK) and so-called Nelson Mandela of Kashmir Shabir Ahmad Shah did a complete U-turn the other day and commended the role of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) as far as resolution of the "Kashmir issue" is concerned. Actually, he welcomed the statement of Secretary General OIC, Ayaad Abdullah Amin, which was delivered in Kashmir House, Islamabad, in an event organized by PoJK Government on August 5 and said in a press statement that Amin cleared all of his doubts and made it clear that "OIC would continue its support to the people of Kashmir". "We want Kashmir issue to be resolved as per the resolutions passed by Security Council in this regard so that the conflict between India and Pakistan will come to an end," Amin had said in his statement. His statement also said that the OIC "is touch with even non-member nations in its endeavor to resolve the Kashmir issue". There was nothing new in the statement that was made by Amin. It was just a reiteration of what the OIC had been saying in the past, but Shah deemed it proper to commend Amin and OIC for reasons best known to him. It is obvious that he changed his stand on the OIC to cultivate certain elements in the OIC for personal gains. It bears recalling that only on July 31, Shah and Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had revolted against the Gulf nations and criticized the OIC and urged the Kashmiri Muslims to stand on their own feet if they wished to achieve the "right to self-determination". Muslim organizations like OIC and Arab League/Gulf countries have lost their relevance and that apart from passing resolutions they have done nothing pragmatic to help conflict-ridden Muslim countries across the worlds well as Kashmir, they had said in one voice. Shah in particular had, among other things, said: "Instead of seeking support of Arab world, people of Kashmir should strive themselves to achieve their goal. I don't believe in seeking help from others. What can you accept from Arab League after seeing their stand on Gaza? Kashmiris have sacrificed their lives for the freedom movement and will continue to do so till we achieve our goal…Even though we have a support of the only Muslim nuclear power country (Pakistan), but we still need to stand on our own feet…Apart from passing resolutions, OIC has done nothing substantive to help Kashmir cause…Personal benefits have made Arab world incompetent". Shah needs to explain why did he say something on July 31 which he withdrew within six days. Explanation on his part has become necessary considering the fact that nothing substantial happened in those days. The statement of Amin could not be the reason behind his complete U-turn. There should be something more than meet the eyes. |
