NC has become pvt ltd company: Shaheen | Cracks Wide And Open | | JK is not Omar's fiefdom, he sidelined party workers, leaders Fazal Khan SRINAGAR, Aug 9: As the elections are coming closer ruling National Conference is finding it hard to keep its flock together. Senior NC leader and former Member Parliament from north Kashmir Abdul Rashid Shaheen, who recently parted ways from NC, has opened a Pandora's box by blaming the party patron Dr Farooq Abdullah and his Chief Minister son Omar Abdullah for the downfall of the Valley's oldest party. Shaheen while talking to Early Times said, "The father son-duo for safeguarding their own interests ruined National Conference. After Omar became the Chief Minister in 2009 he sidelined the senior party leaders and encouraged a few people around him, who became his coterie." Shaheen alleged that Omar during all these years ignored the senior party leaders and treated them like "aliens." "Nasir Aslam Wani and Devendar Rana who were the junior most workers of the party were given all important posts of Provincial Presidents of Kashmir and Jammu respectively," he said. "Dr Farooq and Omar knew it very well that senior leaders are not comfortable with both of them. They ignored the suggestions and concerns of the seniors and went ahead with their plans." National Conference has been turned into a "private limited" company rather than it being a political party. "Thousands of NC workers despite being threatened by the militants remained affiliated with the party when militancy was at peak in Kashmir. Many NC workers were killed for not disassociating themselves from the party. It is unfortunate that both Dr Farooq and Omar forgot the sacrifices of these workers and sidelined them." On being told that NC leaders are claiming that ( Shaheen) raised the banner of revolt because he was denied mandate for the forthcoming Assembly elections, he said, "They are propagating lies. Even if I would have been given the mandate I would have not accepted it. National Conference is a sinking ship and people have rejected it outrightly." He said that results of the recently held Parliamentary polls have proved that NC has lost the ground in Kashmir. "Neither Dr Farooq nor Omar are aware about the ground realties the coterie surrounding the father-son duo has kept them in dark. Had they been aware about the ground situation NC would not have lost all the three Parliamentary seats in Kashmir," Shaheen added. He said that Omar "failed to deliver" as a Chief Minister and as the working President of the party. "Leader cannot remain in isolation. After Omar came into power he started believing that he is the king and the people around him, including the party leaders, who have been serving the National Conference since late Sheikh Abdullah's time are his "servants." "During his five and half year rule Omar treated his party workers and leaders like second class citizens. It seems now things are unfurling before him and I hope by now he would have realized that Jammu and Kashmir is not his fiefdom," he said. Shaheen claimed that many senior NC leaders are planning to say goodbye to the party due to what he called, "incompetence" of the party leadership. "In coming days you will see that many people will leave NC and forthcoming elections will prove to be the last nail in the party's coffin," he added. |
