Clueless Cong beating about the bushes? | | | Kunal Shrivatsa JAMMU, Sept 3: The Congress leaders in the state, it seems, have yet to come out of the shock defeat it received in the Lok Sabha polls as most of them are not visible on ground due to which the party's preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections is not taking off as desired by the top central as well as state leadership. Sources informed Early Times that instead of being in their respective constituencies to give a boost to party's prospects in the forthcoming Assembly polls, a large chunk of Congress Ministers, MLAs and MLCs, on the other hand, so far have remained inaccessible to grass root level workers. "Despite a clear directive of senior Congress leaders to all the party Ministers and MLAs to devote their time on field in order to gain the lost ground but their visibility on ground is far from less… They have been told to work tirelessly to strengthen the party base but it looks like that the Congress representatives are ignoring the instructions of high command and yet to gear up for the polls," said sources. "Congress leaders especially the elected representatives are still not showing any eagerness to come out of the hibernation mode…. They prefer to remain indoors rather than going out to make connect with the masses….Only a few of them are active, however, majority of them are in dormant state," they added. The elected Congress representatives as well as those seeking party mandate are less active in their home constituencies, however, the party leaders' activism is more noticeable at All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, New Delhi where they are making rounds not only to ensure their candidature but also to create roadblocks for their political adversaries within the party. "Almost all the contenders for the Congress ticket are camping in New Delhi….The probable candidates are lobbying hard for the mandate but at the same time they are also not wasting any opportunity to pull legs of those leaders who are a threat to their candidature," said sources. Sources further said that the so called unity among the different factions of the party is only perceptible at the highest level of the State Congress and the middle rung leaders are even now have a preference for particular senior central and state leaders. "Though the top brass of the Congress is trying to present a picture of unity in Pradesh Congress Committee, the party leaders are yet to do away with the habit of exhibiting allegiance to the so called camps of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Saif-ud-Din Soz and even Ambika Soni and Lalit Maken for getting a favourable and positive response," said sources. "They make beelines at the doorsteps of these leaders to seek their blessings but are not showing keenness to go to the ground zero where party activists are waiting for their arrival," sources added. |
