Rains create havoc: Six people including BSF officer killed in landslides, police post swept away
Heavy loss of property reported, roads damaged

RAJOURI, Sept 3: A Border Security Force Officer among six people were killed while a police post was washed away in landslides and flash floods triggered due to heavy rains across Jammu region.
"Six people and a BSF jawan were killed today in a remote Chasana area of Reasi district and Poonch district when a mud house and a bunker collapsed due to landslides in view of heavy rains," police spokesman here said.
He said that the village is situated in far flung area and police teams have rushed to the spot but due to no connectivity, the contact is not being established to find out more details about the incident.
Meanwhile, a BSF officer was among six persons was also killed in landslides and flash floods triggered by heavy rain in Jammu region.
Over 100 people were also rescued from the flood-hit regions.
"Six people have reported to have died, including a BSF officer in Jammu region in landslides and flash floods today. Over 100 people have been rescued from floods," a senior official said.
BSF Inspector Mohammad Rashid of 154 Battalion was buried alive in a bunker due to landslide in Mandi Mandir area along LoC in Poonch district, he said.
A police post also got washed away in flash floods triggered after incessant rains along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
The Police Post Behram Galla located in remote belt of tehsil Surankote in Poonch was washed away in flash floods, the spokesman added.
He said the police post was completely damaged and there is no report of any causality or injury.
Meanwhile the rains continued in the region, he added.
However, the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar national highway-1A which was blocked due to heavy rains and landslides this morning was reopened for traffic from both the sides.
The normal traffic on every busy Jammu-Srinagar national highway which got disrupted today morning following overnight rain and shower triggering landslides near Panthial in Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban was restored from both sides after clearance of landslides, police said.
They said that the Border Road Organisation (BRO) men who were on job to clear the road cleared the highway and the traffic was resumed from both sides and traffic is smoothly plying.
The highway was closed for normal traffic following overnight rains triggered landslides near Panthial in Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district this morning. (JKNI)
