Jammu, Jan 17: Vipul Saini today retained the men's singles title beating upcoming young Divum Gupta in straight sets of 21-12, 21-11 in the final of the 41st State Badminton Championship which concluded today with the holding of valedictory function at J&K Police indoor hall, here. Vipul make it a double title win taking home the doubles title pairing with his elder brother and former state champion, Vikram Saini. The duo outplayed Rahul and Shantul 21-15, 21-16. However, promising Divum clinched the under-19 boys' singles title beating Raghav Dogra in straight sets of 21-18, 21-10. In under-19 boys doubles final, Adam and Dhananjay beat Savinay and Raghav 21-16, 16-21, 21-17. The women's singles title trophy went to Diksha Kalsotra, who beat Prabhjyot 21-14, 21-15. In women's doubles final, Diksha and Akanksha defeated Deksha Mahajan and Prabhjyot 2-1 (17-21, 21-09, 21-12). In under-19 girls' singles title clash, Peehushi lost to Naman 19-21, 14-21. Naman made it a double title win excelling in under-17 final too. She trounced the same opponent in Peehushi 21-09, 21-17. Promising Naman also took home the under-13 girls singles trophy after she defeated Bhavani 2-1 (20-22, 21-15, 21-13). In the final and valedictory function, Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Kuldeep Khoda was chief guest in the finals, who gave away the winners and runners-up trophies amidst encouragement to the young and upcoming shuttlers of the state. He was all praise for young Divum Gupta and Naman for their exceptional skills and fighting spirits. President J&K Olympic Association, Rangil Singh presided while Secretary, State Sports Council, Dilip Thusu was guest of honour. Earlier, president of the J&K Badminton Association, Sudarshan Singh Wazir presented a detailed report of the five-day long event in his welcome address to the distinguished gathering. Later, Dr OD Sharma presented vote of thanks. Prominent among others present were Dr Ashutosh Sharma, NR Gupta, D D Magotra, Mohd Irfan Ullah, Balbir Singh Jamwal, Haji Qayoom, Rajan Sharma and Sat Pal Sharma. |
