Nalin Kohli proposes, Ramesh Arora disposes | Govt formation and BJP | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 17: BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli the other day hinted that government formation in J&K could be delayed till the assembly elections in Delhi to be held on February 7. "The BJP would surely form government in the state but time is needed to iron out the differences on core issues and ideologies," he said, and added that "Delhi elections may or may not be the reason for delay in government formation in J&K, but we have got time and won't make any decision in hurry". Kohli's statement was ambiguous, as he neither denied nor accepted that the elections in Delhi could delay the formation of government in Jammu & Kashmir. He only adopted a middle path and left it to the people's judgement. Significantly, Kohli was contested by none other than state BJP vice-president Ramesh Arora, who is also prabhari Kashmir. He emphatically said that Delhi assembly elections have nothing to do with the government formation in Jammu & Kashmir. "It was useless to link Delhi elections with government formation in Jammu & Kashmir. The state wing of BJP has its own procedure and under those procedures, all efforts are on to form the government in the state," he was quoted a saying. "Officially, no deliberations with the PDP or the NC are underway as far as government formation in the state is concerned. But unofficially, the BJP is in touch with the leaders of both the parties and if things move in the right direction, BJP will be part of the new government in the state," he also reportedly said. There is a glaring contradiction between what Kohli and Arora said about the causes responsible for the delay in the government formation. Earlier on December 31, one state spokesperson, who had earlier worked with the PDP and the NC, had claimed that the BJP-PDP government would be installed within a day or two and he had been contradicted by the state BJP president, Jugal Kishore Sharma. Sharma after meeting with the State Governor, NN Vohra, told reporters that the party would need some more time to form government in the state. All this has only made the prevailing confusion worse confounded and created an awkward situation for the party high command, which is seriously working for the installation of a government in the state in which the BJP would play an important role. It is only natural that the central leadership of the party had to intervene and ask the party spokespersons in Jammu & Kashmir to refrain from making statements on government formation. However, it appears that their intervention has not produced the desired result. This is evident from the statement that was made by Arora to contradict Kohli. |
