Professors misbehave with participant, GNDU students threaten to boycott event | Food Court turns into battle ground | | Bivek Mathur Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 17: The ongoing youth festival in Jammu University has been marred by the controversies since the day it commenced. Mismanagement and lack of coordination have sent organizers into tizzy. Outraged at the treatment being meted out to them, students of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar have threatened to boycott the festival after being allegedly humiliated by the professors of the Jammu University. Sources told Early Times last night a student of the GNDU after performing at the festival was waiting in a queue for the dinner as he reached near a temporary gate he was stopped by two Professors of the varsity JP Joorel of the Department of the Statistics who is also head of the department and Rakesh Atri of the Department of Environmental Sciences (EVS). Prof Joorel, who is also the convener of the Food Committee of the Youth Festival, asked the GNDU student to show the coupon provided for the dinner but the student claimed that he was not given any coupon as he was performing when coupons were being distributed. Following this, sources alleged both Prof Joorel and Prof Atri pushed the GNDU student back. Witnessing the scuffle between the varsity Professors and the student, some students of the Jammu University tried to intervene. "These varsity students were also humiliated and harassed by these two professors," sources alleged. Later on, this student (Who was pushed out of food court) called all the participating students from the GNDU varsity and all in one voice decided to boycott the Youth Festival. When contacted Prof Joorel said, "No such incident has taken place. Some opportunistic JU students are giving vent to their frustration against the varsity officials and are trying to settle old scores." |
