His loyalists to hold emergency meet to seek Soz's resignation | Azad set to lose RS seat, eyes JKPCC chief post | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 17: Amidst speculations that Peoples Democratic Party may join hands with Bharatiya Janata Party to form the next government in the state and both the parties would contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections jointly has put the former union minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in a tight spot. He (Azad) is all set to lose his Rajya Sabha seat and the post of leader of opposition in the upper house as well, and would be rendered jobless. Azad, sources said, is aware of these facts and wants to shift to JK politics to remain in business. "For that he is eyeing the chair of JKPCC chief," they added. Sources told Early Times that Azad loyalists are meeting here on January 22 to intensify their campaign to seek ouster of the incumbent JKPCC president Professor Saifuddin Soz. "Leaders in Azad's camp are meeting to chalk out a strategy for taking their struggle against Prof Soz to a logical conclusion by ensuring his ouster as early as possible. All the Azad loyalists in State unit of Congress, including former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma, MLA G A Saroori and others, have been invited to participate in the January 22 meeting at the residence of former Member of Parliament, Janak Raj Gupta, who is spearheading the anti-Soz campaign," sources added. Besides Janak Raj Gupta, former minister Yogesh Sawhney, Abdul Ghani Vakil, Prem Sagar Aziz, Dr Manohar Lal and others, who had recently written an open letter to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and sought resignation of Prof Soz as JKPCC president holding him responsible for the party's debacle in the recently held Assembly elections, are actively garnering support for anti-Soz campaign. Sources said that resignation of Prof Soz and temporarily suspension of party membership drive in Jammu and Kashmir are the main agenda of proposed meet by Azad camp, which is feeling sidelined by the JKPCC president in organizational matters. Sources said that Azad loyalists in coming days would call upon All India Congress Committee (AICC) Chief Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi to seek resignation of Prof Soz. Pertinently, Early Times was the first newspaper to report that Congress faction led by Prof Soz wants to keep party under its control and for that it has launched a massive membership drive in the state. |
