Separatists' interest in coalition politics draws flak | | | Early Times Report srinagar, Jan 17: The separatist leadership has been ridiculed for getting involved by issuing statements on formation of government in Jammu Kashmir. On December 23 last year, Syed Ali Geelani, 85- year- old pro-Pakistan leader in a seminar slammed PDP for joining hands with the BJP. Geelani in a karakul cap and a woolen scarf around the neck, spoke for more than an hour in a seminar arranged by his amalgam in the recent past. Geelani while castigating PDP says BJP must be kept at bay in Jammu and Kashmir which is the Muslim majority state. Another rant was issued by Hurriyat JK leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, claiming the people didn't vote PDP to join hands with what Shah termed 'communal' BJP. However, after facing wrath within the camp, Shah reiterated his earlier statement and said: "I didn't mean what I have said." Mirwaiz Umar Farooq came with a unique formula, appealing the separatist camp to get united for thwarting BJP's march in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, it has been learnt that the separatists have unanimously decided not to issue any statement or a party handout related to any alliance for the next government in Jammu and Kashmir. A senior separatist leader revealed a meeting was held at the residence of Syed Ali Geelani wherein the Huriyat (G) chairman was asked by his other party men to avoid any issue related to the next coalition in the state. "Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also been informed by his secretaries about the public response to his statement. In a meeting, the leaders have decided to shift their focus to some other issues to keep the political pot in the troubled land boiling," says one of the separatist |
