PTU stages protest, demands citizenship for Pak Refugees | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 17 : Panthers Trade Union (PTU) Jammu and Kashmir staged protest demonstration and demanded full citizenship rights with status of permanent residents to all the Pak refugees on Saturday. Numbers of activist assembled in the front of press club under the banner of PTU led by PTU president Paramjit Singh Marshal and shouted slogans in favour of demands. Speaking on the occasion, Paramjit Singh Marshal said a memorandum addressed to State Governor NN Vohra pleaded that nearly 65000 Pak refugees who have remained without civil or fundamental rights through they have been permanently residing in Jammu Pradesh since 1947. "In the memorandum said that these refugees had settled in J&K on the intervention of the then administrator of JK Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah so by the then Monarch, Mahraja Hari Singh," he claimed. He further said the PTU also demanded full compensation to the flood victims, mostly farmers who suffered during the flood havoc in the state and have not been given any compensation in spite of the direction of the Supreme Court of India last month. PTU further demanded relief to all the border migrants who were dislodged recently due to shelling from Pakistan and have been living in misery and pain. They appealed to the Kashmiri based leaders address the problem with human heart and mind as these refugees, their children and grandchildren born in the state have been living lawfully according to the law and they have to accord state permanent resident status. Among those who were presented on the occasion included, Sewa Singh Bali, Kalbir Singh Bandral, Suresh Gupta, Padam Dev Singh, Ram Dass Sharma, Harish CHander, Hafiz-ur-Rehman and others. |
