kathua, Jan 21: Shakti Punj, an Non- Government Organization, NGO, working for the social causes in District Kathua since 2005 has got State award through Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan. While addressing to media in a press conference, Lakhwinder Singh, General Secy. of the NGO expressed gratitude to all workers, NYK and Local administration which enabled them to get state award. He informed 372 cataract Operations were conducted besides blood donation camps, pulse immunization and solemnizing of marriages of poor girls. He said several awareness drives were carried out to save ground water and plantation drive was also conducted since registration of the NGO. He appealed to Governor and newly elected MLAs to lay more stress on sports activities so that Youth may get engaged in good activities. He informed State Government has approached NGO to launch 'Beti Bachao- Beti Padao' drive in District Kathua which would be worked on priority basis. He said Sex ratio was 941/1000 in 2001 that fell down to 859/1000 in 2011 but NGO will work hard to enhance the same. Kuljit Singh, President NGO, Mohinder Sharma Vice President, Vishal Vohra, Jt Secy., Pankaj Sumbria Organizer, Guna Sharma, Kailash, Sanowar, Rajinder, Surjit, Nitu Pathania and many other members of the NGO were present and highlighted other achievements of the NGO. |
