Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 21: Dhanwantri Library of the Jammu University which was once constructed for providing a serene atmosphere to various civil, academic as well as bank exam aspirants has become a subject of debate as on now, as most of the students coming to study there are finding the space inadequate with the rising number of aspirants in Jammu region. A civil services aspirant who wished anonymity said that there has been a steep rise in the numbers of students sitting in the Dhanwantri Library to prepare for various civil as well as academics examinations but the university administration is not prepared to provide the space for the same. He further said that about one third of the space in the Library premises has been occupied by two departments i.e. B.Lib and M.Lib sciences department which is creating a chaotic situation as the complex is cramped with students coming in large numbers to study there. "Some of the departments like Psychology and DSRS are being run in the premises of Department of Life Long Learning Sciences and Department of Social Sciences. In the same pattern, university can either shift B.Lib and M.Lib departments to the premises of other departments or create new infrastructure for the same", the research scholar suggested. He added that on an average over 20 students those studying in the University Library are clearing various exams conducted by UPSC, JKPSC, banking sector and other police exams whereas the average in case of clearance of academics exam through PSC is over 40 students annually. "The facilities which are being provided by the University for the competitive exams are no doubt of the best use for the aspirants but University administration is not prepared to cater the rising numbers of competitive exam aspirants every new year however the administration is available with variety of options including construction of more rooms for the Library science departments, expansion of Library or to shift the library science departments to the premises of some other departments", suggested another research scholar. |
