Jammu, Jan 21: As the empty coffers are staring at the face of the state government, the Governor N N Vohra has sent a letter to the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitely apprising him about the financial mess JK is in. In a statement here a Raj Bhawan spokesman said: "Consequent to holding several rounds of personal discussions with the State Planning and Finance Secretaries, and consultations with the Chief Secretary, the Governor has addressed a detailed communication to the Union Finance Minister regarding the crisis being faced on the financial front." The Governor's letter to the Finance Minister brings up the severe difficulties faced in funding the Annual Plan (2014-15) and the virtual break down of the State's financial balance, the spokesman stated. "Separately, action is also being taken for the Governor to visit Delhi for meeting the Finance Minister and seeking his urgent help to enable the State Government to tide over the obtaining crisis," he said. Pertinently, bills running in to several hundred crores are awaiting clearance across state treasuries in the absence of funds. The central government had withheld the payments following imposition of Model Code of Conduct. The situation worsened after the declaration of the results as the electorate handed over fractured mandate plunging the state in deep political mess. The central govt is likely to take note of the grave financial crisis in the state and rescue the state authorities as it has been forced to borrow money to run the show. |
