Jammu, Jan 21: A youth is alleged to have made a bid to rape a girl after kidnapping her from Digiana area here with the help of his uncle. The victim's parents told Early Times that one Rakesh Kumar of Digiana allegedly kidnapped their daughter and also tried to rape her. "Rakesh was troubling our daughter since long. We had also complained to his parents but on January 15 he crossed all the limits and kidnapped our daughter when she was returning after her class," said Vijay Kumar, father of the victim. "After the incident, I went to Police Post, Digiana, with my daughter and filed a complaint of attempt to rape and kidnapping but police registered a case under bailable offences," said Bachno Devi, mother of the victim. She said that her husband is a labourer. "The youth abducted our daughter with the help of his uncle and they are close to an MLA. That's why police are shielding the kidnapper," she alleged. She said police registered a case on January 15 but could not arrest him till January 20. "It was very unfortunate that the police could not arrest the accused in six days," she added. When contacted, Chowki Officer, Digiana police post, Rakesh Kumar said that an FIR was registered against the youth under sections 354, 342 and 506 of RPC," he added and informed that he had got an anticipatory bail. Section 354 stands for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, Section 506 deals with threat to death and section 342 speaks of punishment for wrongful confinement. |
