Jammu, Feb 11: Jan Aushadhi Generic Drug Store opened at Government Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital, Jammu on Wednesday. The Divisional Commissioner, Shantmanu who is also the ex-officio Chairman of Regional Red Cross Committee, Jammu inaugurated store. Earlier, the first store in Jammu district was inaugurated at Govt. Medical College Hospital, on 23rd December, 2014 by the General Secretary, IRCS, J&K, Roma Wani. Speaking on the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner said that the scheme offers huge public benefits as the medicines are manufactured under strict quality control by the Public Sector companies of the GOI and the price of medicines is about one forth of their branded equivalents. "Jan Aushadhi is a government of India initiative under which quality generic medicines are made available for all at affordable prices," he stated and adding in J&K State, Red Cross Society has been entrusted with the responsibility of implementing the scheme with the support of the State government under a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding between the Bureau of Pharma Public Sector undertakings of India (BPPI), the Health Department and Red Cross Society. While, the General Secretary, IRCS J&K State, Roma Wani credited the success of Jan Aushadhi in the State to team effort and thanked the District Development Commissioner, Ajit Sahu, Principal GMC, Dr. Ghanshyam Dev Gupta and the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr. Dara Singh and his team for their co-operation in making the facility available in SMGS to the people who throng the Hospital from all parts of the Jammu Division. While giving details of the status of the scheme, Wani said that Jan Aushadhi is one of the flagship Projects of the Red Cross Society and four Stores at Jammu, Doda, Udhampur and Reasi districts are already functioning in the Jammu Region. Besides, stores in Leh, Kargil, Anantnag and Pulwama in the Kashmir division are also functioning well. Roma Wani appealed the medical fraternity, especially those working in Govt. hospitals to support the scheme by prescribing generic medicines in the larger public interest. Appreciating the efforts of Red Cross, the Secretary General, Press Club, Jammu, Sohail Kazmi and appealed the people to take maximum benefit of the drug store where quality medicines are available at affordable prices for all. Among others who were present on the occasion included RC Puri, Suresh Sharma, Dr. Ramesh Gupta, Farida, Rifat Nazir, and other government. officials, members from the Civil Society and Red Cross Life Members and Volunteers. |
