Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Feb 11: Timber smugglers have apparently taken control of the forests and they seem to be enjoying in every part of the valley. Green gold is being vandalized in the broad day light with the same depicting that authorities are hand in glove with the smugglers.
Early Times has learnt that the timber smugglers are busy in felling down of the prized trees in the Arin area of North Kashmir's Bandipora district and the authorities appear to have no knowledge about it.
The people of the area doubt the sincerity of the department towards their profession, otherwise how it is possible for the smugglers to strike in the broad day light.
As per the reports the smugglers vandalized compartment numbers 110/A, 110/B, 111/A, 111/B, 112/A and 112/B without having the fear of facing the legal action. Sources say that the trees are being cut in such a way as if these smugglers have got license.
People of the area smell something fishy who believe that that the cutting of the trees, that too in the broad day light would have not been possible and speaks volumes about the nexus between the smugglers and the authorities.
Sources said a low ranked employee tried to stop the smugglers from carrying out their nefarious designs, but he was beaten to pulp and left him half dead.
The incident of beating the low rank employees is indicative of the fact that the higher ups of the department watch as the mute spectators. As per reports FIR vide number 21/2015 has been registered against the smugglers and manhunt has been launched to nab them. The people of the area are of the opinion that there are black sheep within the department who fulfill the agenda of the smugglers. And if ever, as per the people of the area, it is only the low rank employee who faces the axe for a lapse, but the higher officials seem to be exempted from the punishments.
